Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Newcastle think so. He's not played a full match for Spurs for ages. It must be a seller's market.

He didn't say he wasn't too bothered to lose him, he said he was CHUFFED to get that money for him.

Try reading things properly, cunt lips.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
If you compare him to Payet then yes of course it's a shite deal, but then so would most deals be if that is the comparison.

I reckon it could be a good move for them and if the end up getting the sulky twat from WBA then it could prove to be an excellent window for them.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Well I expect Spurs aren't too bothered to lose him as they are now fishing in a much bigger pond.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Spurs STH at work said he's a one trick pony, if you stop him cutting inside you stop him altogether. Chuffed to bits to get £12mil for him.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
He's an improvement on what they have, they wanted the player and Spurs were happy to tell them we want 12m take it or leave it.

McLaren has strengthened their first XI this window, for sure.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Good signing for Neecastle and I don't think it's a massively inflated price. Comparing all transfers to the value we got for Payet is just as ridiculous as doing likewise for Jarvis.

Townsend is comfortably in between.

Sounds a fair price. Hope the Geordie cunts go down though

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Really good signing. I actually think he is worth it too.

Yes Payet was less, but we all know that was a bargain and that Payet is worth a lot more.

Excellent signing by Newcastle though. They'll be safe easily now.

12m well spent if they stay up, strange though, gone from England's saviour to Geordie relegation battle in what 2 years?

Vertonghen is already done for a few months, which pleases me no end

Nice that an elbow in the face was part of the reason his knee collapsed

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Indeed, they properly spunked the bale money

One thing pochettino has done is identify areas to improve and sign players that fit. They don't just do what they've done for years and just sign all the best players from the premier league that aren't at champions league clubs, regardless of if they actually need those players in those positions. It was like a 12 year old just playing football manager, and looking at player ratings for the last season and trying to buy the top ten.

As for Townsend, I don't think it's a massively unreasonable sum. Tottenham don't need the money, Newcastle wanted him so seller had the power to some degree. One thing Spurs need to sort out is but fucking up
The young talent they do get after a couple of seasons - Townsend us like Lennon, Dawson, Gardner etc before him who looked really good as a youngster and then just stagnated there. They always seem to be a club where talent goes to die

Your right Bernie, two or three Injurys soon and their fucked.. Got it coming to them because of levy.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
But they've outspent us massively over the entire history of the Premier League, AND probably made a profit overall, and what have they actually achieved as a result of that?

A large number of better league placings than us - any cups? Any league titles? Any European success?

So, my point is, despite making large profits on their transfer dealings, they've not really achieved anything more than us. They certainly haven't achieved 400 million pounds worth more success than us, if it's possible to quantify things that way.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
They made a massive balls up on the Bale money. Even if they have since sold all those players and signed some decent ones, the mistakes of just 2-3 years ago can't be forgotten, not discounting Lamela who is still to return very little of the £30m spent.

I still think they are 2 injuries away (Kane and Alli) from being a mid table team, and if it wasn't for appointing Poch there's a very good chance Kane would've been sold, and had Liverpool not fucked up Alli wouldn't even be theirs.

I fucking hate spurs

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Well yes if you extrapolate to a scale that makes comparison rather pointless, and also ignore sales, then maybe you have a point.

>>> What good is profit on transfer dealings if you're realistically no closer to winning the league than a team that isn't making a profit?

Does that question really need a serious answer? If none of it matters then we might as well give up discussing football and talk about roulette or the lottery. It so happens it does matter, and if you're making more effective use of tens of millions per year than most of your opponents you give yourself a major chance of ending up on top, the only question is how long your advantage takes to play out. Of course there are no guarantees, and the flood of money coming into the game might even the odds more than a little, but we might as well note the advantages that some clubs have engineered for themselves in the meantime.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
I saw a website a while ago that compared all the teams transfer spending and income, and they'd spent something along the lines of 700 million on players in the Prem era, while we'd spent 300.

And still, here we are just over halfway through this season, and they're what 4 or 5 points ahead of us?

What good is profit on transfer dealings if you're realistically no closer to winning the league than a team that isn't making a profit?

Sorry that's £30m per season, to be clear.

Opinions :).

Yes, Soldado was a disappointment and a major mis-step in 2013, as were the managers they appointed that season. That they're in such good health as a club despite those mistakes is the basis for my praise.

I remember a recent stat that they're the only prem team in profit on transfers over five seasons. On average they had somewhere near a £30m head start on us in terms of their transfer dealings over that period. And that's before you take into account the quality of the signings, youth policy etc.

That's a battle you can't win.

Here's something for you Alex.

I reckon that Bilic and the Daves would have West Ham closer to winning the league than Spurs are if they had the Bale money to spend.
